Scarborough Volunteer Infantry Officer’s Shoulder Belt Plate c1803-1809, a very rare and fine quality example in die-stamped unmarked silver coloured metal. Of oval outline with a beaded rim and bearing in an oval cartouche the Seal of the town, this displays the sun, two human heads and part shoulders in a masted boat at sea, a fortress like structure with a lion’s mask on the top battlement, one hook and two stud fasteners, very good condition £800-£1,200
Note. Unit along with others became the 5th regiment of North York Local Militia in 1808. HQ Scarborough.
