Ottoman Empire, Navy Fund Medal, Gold Medal, 28mm diameter, with integral life-ring suspension, maker’s mark ‘A.K.’ to reverse of suspension, extremely fine, rare £800-£1,200

The Navy Fund Medal was struck in 1912 and was awarded to those who helped to improve and modernise the Ottoman Imperial Naval Forces. Those who made financial contributions to the Navy could also wear the medal, which was hereditary in the fact that it could also be inherited and worn by the recipient’s heirs. The medal came in five ‘classes’: gold (36mm); gold (28mm); silver (28mm); silver (25mm); and bronze (25mm).

Attributed to Herr F. J. Günther. For the various other awards attributed to the recipient, see lots 1245, 1251, 1274, 1316, 1317, 1321, 1330, and 1331.
