Thomas Samson was born in Lyme Regis, Dorset and attested for the Coldstream Guards at Beaminster in October 1848. He advanced to Corporal in July 1852, and to Sergeant Major in February 1865. Samson was discharged, 24 January 1871, having served for 22 years and 101 days with the Colours.
