George Henry Mockford was born in Worthing, Sussex, on 29 January 1877, and joined the Metropolitan Police at Scotland Yard on 6 June 1898. Posted to ‘H’ (Whitechapel) Division, he transferred to ‘J’ (Bethnal Green) Division on 21 February 1905, and retired on 10 June 1923, after 25 years and 5 days’ service.
