Pair: Private R. Hadley, Royal Sussex Regiment

Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, dated reverse, no clasp (1470. Pte. R. Hadley. 1/R. Suss: R.); Khedive’s Star 1882, unnamed as issued, pitting from Star, nearly very fine (2) £140-£180

Richard Hadley was born in Malvern, Worcestershire, in 1859 and attested for General Service at Chichester, Sussex, on 23 July 1879. Posted to the Royal Sussex Regiment, he served with the 1st Battalion in Cyprus, and then in Egypt and the Sudan from 9 September 1882 to 11 September 1885, and was promoted Lance-Corporal on 15 November 1883. He transferred to the Army Reserve on 23 September 1885, and was discharged on 22 July 1891, after 12 years’ service. He re-enlisted in the Royal Sussex Regiment on 27 July 1891, and was discharged a second time on 26 July 1895, after a further 4 years’ service.
