S. Skeere attested for the 3rd Light Dragoons, and served with them during the First Sikh War 1845-46, where he was present at the battles of Moodkee, Ferozeshuhur, and Sobraon, and was wounded at the battle of Ferozeshuhur on 21 December 1845 (medal and 2 clasps); and during the Second Sikh War 1848-49, where he was present at the battles of Chilianwala and Gookerat.
