Robert Hope Alston Hunter was born at Troqueer, Kircudbright, Scotland, on 10 June 1805. He was appointed Hospital Assistant, Staff, in January 1827, and Assistant Surgeon 2nd Foot in June 1830. He served in medical charge of the Belgaum Field Forces in Canara, 1837, and served with the Queen’s in Afghanistan and Baluchistan, 1838-39, including the storm and capture of Ghuznee on 23 July 1839, and of Khelat on 13 November 1839. Staff Surgeon, July 1841; Surgeon, 57th Foot, January 1843; Surgeon-Major, July 1847; retired, February 1852. Surgeon-Major Hunter died in June 1867.
