Army of India 1799-1826, 1 clasp, Ava (W. Whitton, 41st Foot.) short hyphen reverse, officially impressed naming, edge bruise, otherwise better than very fine £1,000-£1,200

William Whitton was born in the Parish of Stepnell, Derby, and originally enlisted into the 34th Foot on 17 February 1809, a cordwainer by trade. He served with the 34th in the East Indies from 11 July 1811, and whilst there transferred to the 41st Foot at Madras on 16 May 1822, then being aged 32. He served with the 41st in the Burma campaign of 1824-26 and was discharged at Madras on 10 August 1826, in consequence of chronic diarrhoea, and was finally discharged from the Army on 6 June 1827. Sold with copied discharge papers.
