Naval General Service 1793-1840, 1 clasp, Navarino (Windham B. Portman, Lieut. R.N.) edge bruise, otherwise very fine £2,000-£2,600

Confirmed as Lieutenant on board H.M.S. Talbot at the battle of Navarino.

Wyndham Berkeley Portman was born in 1804, third son of Edward Berkeley Portman, of Bryanston, Dorset, and brother of Edward, 1st Viscount Portman. He joined the Royal Navy on 7 August 1817, passed his examination in 1823, and was made Lieutenant on 26 January 1826. into the Brisk 10, Captain Hon. William Anson, on the Mediterranean station. He was appointed in the same rank to the Talbot in September 1827. He appears as a retired Commander, 1 July 1864. Sold with copied record of service.
