Naval General Service 1793-1840, 1 clasp, Java (John S. Field, 2nd Lieut. R.M.) nearly extremely fine £2,000-£2,600

Confirmed on the roll as 2nd Lieutenant aboard H.M.S. Hussar at Java.

On 3 August 1811, H.M. Ships
Drake, Phaëton, and the sloop Dasher with the ships’ boats and marines of the Hussar, captured the town and fort of Samenap, Madura, in the face of a large defending force on the island of Java.

John Stroud Field was appointed 2nd Lieutenant, Royal Marines, on 7 April 1809. He joined Hussar on 1 June 1811, and was discharged from that ship ‘Invalided’ on 1 July 1812. He was placed on half-pay on 6 June 1815. Sold with various copied muster lists.
