Royal Victorian Medal, G.VI.R., 1st issue, silver, unnamed as issued, on lady’s bow riband, in Royal Mint case of issue; Jubilee 1935, on lady’s bow riband, in card box of issue; Coronation 1937, on lady’s bow riband, in card box of issue; Coronation 1953, on lady’s bow riband, in card box of issue; Royal Household Long and Faithful Service Medal, G.V.R., 2nd issue, suspension dated ‘1911-1931’, with 2nd issue ‘Thirty Years’ and ‘Forty Years’ Additional Award Bars (Rosella R. Hickman.) on lady’s bow riband, in case of issue, extremely fine (5) £300-£400

Miss Rosella Ruby Hickman was born in 1890, and entered Royal Service as a Linen Maid at Sandringham House, Norfolk, in 1911. She was awarded her Royal Household Long and Faithful Service Medal in August 1931, whilst serving as Head Linen Maid, and received the Thirty Years Bar on 28 August 1941. She was awarded the Royal Victorian Medal in Silver in the 1943 New Year’s Honours List, and was awarded the Fourth Years Bar to her Royal Household Long and Faithful Service Medal in August 1951. She died in 1967.

Sold with Bestowal Document for the Royal Victorian Medal, named to ‘Miss Rosella Ruby Hickman’, and dated 1 January 1943, in Central Chancery envelope addressed to ‘Miss Rosella R. Hickman, Head Linen Maid, Sandringham House, Sandringham, Norfolk’; a copy of the Statutes of the King George V Long and Faithful Service Medal; Buckingham Palace enclosure for the Additional Award Bar; and a portrait photograph of the recipient.
