Claude George Hamilton was born in Baldock, Hertfordshire, in June 1895. He served with the 12th (Service) Battalion, Middlesex Regiment in the French theatre of war from 17 November 1915. Hamilton subsequently transferred to the 2nd Battalion, London Regiment.

After the war Hamilton was employed as a reporter by the
Hemel Hempstead Gazette. He joined the Watford Observer in 1941, and served with the A.R.P. Fire Watch during the Second War. After the war Hamilton was employed as the Editor of the Letchworth Citizen, retiring in 1960. He died in Baldock in 1972.

C. A. Hamilton was the son of the above, and served as a Signalman with the Royal Corps of Signals during the Second War.
