John William Wright was a native of Oxford, and was born in November 1887. He served during the Great War with the 2nd Battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry in the French theatre of war from 8 November 1914. Wright was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the 3rd Battalion, 15 February 1917, and advanced to Lieutenant, 15 August 1918. He served as Assistant to Officer in Command Infantry Record Office, Hamilton, from January 1919.
