56th (West Essex) Regiment Officer’s helmet plate c1878-1881. Crowned star pattern back plate with laurel & garter overlays in the centre in silver on a ground of dark purple velvet (mothed) the Castle & Key for Gibraltar with ‘Gibraltar’ honour above and a tri-part scroll below ‘Montis Insigia Calpe’, three loop fasteners, most ray finials with some buckling and gilt loss mainly to the overlay section, otherwise good condition £260-£300
