Douglas William Roberts was born in Kingston-upon-Thames in 1900 and was educated at the Royal Hibernian Military School in Dublin. He passed his Army Schoolmasters Examination on 1 August 1920, and was advanced Educational Instructor on 27 April 1928. He retired on 1 December 1934.
