John Morgan was born in Kidderminster, and attested for the Grenadiers Guards at the town of his birth in June 1861. He advanced to Corporal in October 1863, and Sergeant in January 1871 (awarded L.S. & G.C. July 1879). He transferred as Acting Sergeant Major to the Royal Sussex Regiment in November 1882. Morgan was discharged, 30 November 1898, having served 37 years and 174 days, all of which were at Home.
