Edward Thomas Vaughan was born on 26 February 1879, and joined the Education Office in Dublin as a Boy Copyist on 1 August 1895. He was advanced Boy Clerk on 15 October of that year, before transferring to the Valuation Office in Dublin as an Assistant Clerk on 1 September 1898. He returned to the Board of Education on 13 November 1899, as a 2nd Division Clerk on 13 November 1899, before transferring to the General Post Office, Dublin, on 5 June 1900. He joined the Royal Irish Constabulary Office in Dublin, as a Second Division Clerk, on 5 June 1901.
