Five: Flight Sergeant W. Harvey, South African Air Force

1939-45 Star; Italy Star; War Medal 1939-45; Africa Service Medal, these officially named ‘99578 W. Harvey.’; Efficiency Medal, G.VI.R., 1st issue, Union of South Africa (F/Sgt. W. Harvey S.A.A.F.) with 2 Durban Football Association Prize Medals, both in Sterling Silver, engraved ‘Juvenile A. League 1930 Queens Park F.C. W. Harvey’ and the same but with ‘1931’, generally very fine or better (lot) £60-£80

William Harvey was born in February 1914, and joined the South African Air Force as an Air Mechanic in August 1940. He subsequently served as a Wireless Operator with the 3rd Air Wing, and advanced to Temporary Flight Sergeant in January 1944. Harvey was discharged, 7 January 1946.

Sold with the following original documents: named Union Defence Forces Certificate of appreciation, dated 3 January 1946; letters of notification from the A. G. War Records to recipient confirming his medal entitlement, addressed to him at addresses in Durban and then Johannesburg; and card envelopes of issue for campaign awards.
