Eric Cecil Clarke was born in Slough on 17 May 1917. A Well Borer by occupation, he enlisted into the Territorial Army at Reading on 21 September 1939. He served during the Second World War in No. 1 Boring Section, Royal Engineers, with the British Expeditionary Force in France from November 1939- to 29 May 1940; in the Middle East from March 1941 to August 1943; and in North Africa from August 1943 to August 1945. He transferred to Class ‘Z’ Reserve in April 1946.
