Jonas Freeman was born in Hadstock, Essex, and attested for the Bedfordshire Regiment at Warley, Essex. He served with the 6th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front, and died of wounds at No. 8 Casualty Clearing Station, France, on 26 May 1917. He is buried in Duisas British Cemetery, France.

Sold with the Record Office enclosure notifying next of kin of the recipient’s death; Chaplain to the Forces letter regarding the recipient’s burial, and Director of Graves Registration and Enquiries card with photograph; and copied Medal Index Card and other research.
