Three: Commissioned Gunner J. K. Daniels, Royal Navy, who died on 4 November 1918

John King Daniels was born in Hockley, Essex, on 19 April 1885, and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 1st class on 2 April 1901. Advanced Ordinary Seaman in H.M.S. Terpsichore on 19 April 1903, he was promoted Able Seaman in the same ship on 17 March 1904; Leading Seaman in H.M.S. Royal Arthuer on 20 January 1906; and Petty Officer in H.M.S. Victory on 15 May 1913. Appointed Acting Gunner on 6 November 1914, he was appointed to H.M.S. Vernon for service in H.M. Torpedo Boat 98 in January 1915, before transferring to H.M. Torpedo Boat 82 on 11 February of that year. He was appointed Commissioned Gunner on 23 November 1915, when operating out of Dover with Dover Patrol.

Daniels subsequently served in the 6th Destroyer Flotilla from April 1916, and then transferred to H.M. Patrol Boat
P52 in December 1916, operating out of Portsmouth. He died on 4 November 1918 (cause unknown), and is buried in Rawreth (St. Nicholas) Churchyard, Essex.
