Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 4 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901, unofficial rivets between second, third, and fourth clasps (785 Pte. C. Daniels, Somerset: Lt. Inft.) minor edge bruising, good very fine £100-£140

Charles Daniels was born in Birkley, Frome, Somerset in 1865, and attested for the Somerset Light Infantry at Taunton on 27 October 1884. Posted to the 1st Battalion, he transferred to the 2nd Battalion on 15 February 1886, and served with them in India and Burma from that date to 11 February 1892 (entitled to an India General Service Medal 1854-95 with clasp for Burma 1885-7). Returning home, he transferred to the Army Reserve on 17 February 1892, before enlisting for a second term on 21 January 1897, and serving a further four years with the Colours, seeing action in South Africa during the Boer War.
