India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Waziristan 1894-5 (375 Sergt. J. Bennett 2d. Bn. Border Regt.) contact marks, nearly very fine £140-£180

James Bennett was born in Preston, Lancashire, in 1864 and attested there for the Border Regiment on 26 May 1883. Promoted Corporal on 14 September 1884, and Sergeant on 18 January 1887, he served with the 2nd Battalion in India from 21 February 1890 to 1 March 1901, and saw action as part of the Waziristan Field Force under Lieutenant-General Sir William Lockhart in the operations against the Waziri tribesman between 17 November 1894 and 13 March 1895. He was awarded his Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal per Army Order 83 of 1902 and, after a spell on the permanent staff of the 4th Battalion, was discharged at Carlisle on 25 July 1908, after 25 years and 61 days’ service.
