A Great War 1914 ‘Western Front’ D.C.M. awarded to Lance-Corporal J. Daniel, Black Watch, who died of wounds sustained on the Western Front at home on 6 June 1915

D.C.M. London Gazette 18 February 1915 (citation published 1 April 1915):
‘For gallant conduct on 4 November 1914 in carrying a wounded man to safety.’

James Daniel was born in Galashiels, Selkirkshire, and attested for the Black Watch (Royal Highlanders) at Perth. He served with the 2nd Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 12 October 1914. For his services during the initial months of the Great War he was Mentioned in Despatches (London Gazette 16 February 1915), as well as being awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal. He died of wounds sustained on the Western Front at home on 6 June 1915, and is buried in Kirkcaldy (Bennochy) Cemetery, Fife.
