Military Cross, G.V.R., unnamed as issued; 1914-15 Star (2 Lieut. R. A. Marriott, North’n. R.); British War and Victory Medals (Capt. R. A. Marriott); Defence and War Medals 1939-45; Territorial Decoration, G.V.R., silver and silver-gilt, with integral top riband bar, mounted as worn, good very fine (7) £800-£1,000

M.C. London Gazette 26 March 1918; citation published 24 August 1918:
‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He led his company with great dash and gallantry to the capture of two redoubts, and, although wounded, he remained at his post and successfully withdrew his company when it was in danger of being surrounded.’

Richard Alan Marriott was disembarked in Gallipoli as a Second Lieutenant in the 1/4th Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment on 2 September 1915, and remained similarly employed until the end of the year. He subsequently served in the Egyptian Expeditionary Force from March 1916 until October 1918.
