A Great War D.C.M. group of seven awarded to Captain A. H. Mitchell, Royal Norfolk Regiment, late Royal Marines

Distinguished Conduct Medal, G.V.R. (12594 Sjt., 7/Norf. R.); 1914-15 Star (12594 L.Sjt., Norf. R.); British War and Victory Medals (Lieut., R.M.); France & Germany Star; Defence & War Medals, mounted as worn, very fine or better (7) £400-500

D.C.M. London Gazette 20 October 1916: ‘For conspicuous gallantry during operations. He dug out a buried man under intense shell fire after the trench had been practically blown out of existence. He has also done fine work in action.’

Mitchell was commissioned as a temporary Lieutenant in the Royal Marines on 1 March 1918. On the outbreak of the Second War he was granted an Emergency Commission in the Royal Norfolk Regiment, as Second Lieutenant, on 23 June 1940, becoming War Substantive Lieutenant on 31 July 1940, and temporary Captain on 20 January 1943.
