Owen Hart was appointed a Temporary Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery in November 1914, and gained advancement to the temporary ranks of Captain in June 1915 and to Major in December 1917. Awarded the D.S.O. and twice mentioned in despatches, he returned to the Colours in the Second World War as a Temporary Major, R.E. with effect from May 1940.
