King, Royal Army Service Corps and Colonial Forces, Distinguished Service Order, G.V.R., gold and enamel, complete with top bar; British South Africa Company, for Matabeleland 1893, no clasp; Queen’s South Africa, 3 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal; King’s South Africa, 2 clasps; Natal, 1 clasp, 1906; 1914-15 Star; British War and Victory Medals; Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers’ Decoration, G.V.R., complete with top bar, mounted as worn, very fine and better (9) £100-140

Charles Edward Stuart King was born in 1869, the son of Rev. R. King of Ballymena. Was a Pioneer of Mashonaland 1890 and served in Theodore Bent’s Expedition in 1891 to explore the Zimbabwe ruins. Later he served with the B.S.A. Mounted Police and Mounted Rifles and took part in the Matabeleland War 1896, Boer War 1899-1902 and Zulu Rebellion 1906. In the Great War he served in German S.W. Africa 1914-15, for which he was mentioned in despatches and created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order (
London Gazette 22.8.1918) and also in E. Africa 1916-17.
