Afghanistan 1878-80, 4 clasps, Peiwar Kotal, Charasia, Kabul, Kandahar (358 Corp. Wm. Leach, C/2 R.A.) refixed (slack) suspension and copy clasps, edge bruising, very fine £60-80

William Leach was born in the Parish of Framsden, near Ipswich and enlisted in the Royal Artillery in October 1870. In his subsequent career of 21 years with the Colours, he gained advancement to Corporal in August 1877 and served with C Battery, 2nd Brigade, R.A. in the Second Afghan War, but as a result of a period of hospitalisation he was only entitled to the Medal without clasp. Leach was several times reduced to Bombardier but was finally discharged in his old rank of Corporal in October 1891.
