Ghuznee 1839 (No. 905 Pte. Rt. Thompson, 17 Regt.) replacement clip and hinge-bar suspension, re-engraved naming, contact marks and edge bruising, about very fine £100-120

Robert Thompson, who was born in Carlisle, enlisted in the 17th Regiment in New South Wales in September 1833, aged 15 years, where he remained on regimental duty for the next three years. Subsequently employed with the Regiment out in India, he participated in the Ghuznee operations of 1839, was advanced to Corporal in August 1847 and to Sergeant in the following year. Thereafter, however, for assorted misdemeanours, he twice lost his stripes, and ended his career as a Private in December 1859. Thompson was afterwards employed in the Royal Limerick County Militia.
