Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., E.VII.R. (R.M.A. 4590 W. J. Kemsley, Sergt, R.M.A.) together with two tie-pins, one with E.VII.R. cypher, the other with silver busts of William IV, Victoria and Edward VII cut from coinage, and a cap tally for H.M.S. Powerful, very fine (4) £60-£80

W. J. Kemsley was born in London on 19 February 1870, and enlisted into the Royal Marine Artillery in London on 10 June 1892. He was discharged due to length of service on 9 June 1913 and enrolled into the Royal Fleet Reserve the following August. He was mobilised as a Colour-Sergeant R.M.A. on 2 August 1914 and at some date was lent to 7th (Service) Battalion of the Wiltshire Regiment, with whom he served in Salonika as Regimental Sergeant-Major and was mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 6 December 1916 refers).
