Pair: Private T. W. Walter, 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, killed in action in Korea on 7 March 1951

Korea 1950-53 (2/400048 T. W. Walter); U.N. Korea 1950-54 (2/400048 T. W. Walter) extremely fine (2) £500-£600

Thomas William Walter, a native of Randwick, Sydney, was killed in action in Korea on 7 March 1951, during operation ‘Woodbine’ for the capture of Hill 410 in the area of Karun-Ni. The attack was hindered by heavy snow storms in the afternoon, and due to the mountainous terrain, the depth of snow, the snow storm and the darkness, evacuation of casualties took some three or four hours - these amounted to 11 killed and 24 wounded amongst A and D Companies.

Private Walter was 24 years old and was originally interred at Tanggok Cemetery before being transferred to the United Nations Memorial Cemetery, Busan, Korea.

The U.N. Korea Medal is correctly named to the recipient (2/400048 T. W. Walter)
