Six: Sergeant S. Potter, Reconnaissance Corps, Royal Armoured Corps, who was killed in action in the Central Mediterranean theatre on 2 October 1943

1939-45 Star; Africa Star, 1 clasp, 1st Army; Italy Star; Defence and War Medals 1939-45, the Defence and War Medals both impressed ‘4688470 Sgt S Potter RAC’; Efficiency Medal, G.VI.R., 1st issue, Territorial (4688470 Sgt S Potter RAC) with named Defence Council enclosure, the medals all slightly later issues, good very fine (6) £80-£120

Stanley Potter served with the Territorial Forces at Batley, Yorkshire, and was called up to the Colours two days before the start of the Second World War. He served with the 46th Regiment, Reconnaissance Corps, as part of the Royal Armoured Corps, with the British Expeditionary Force in France, before being evacuated from Dunkirk. He subsequently served in North Africa with the 5th Army from January 1943, and was killed in action in the Central Mediterranean theatre on 2 October 1943. He is buried in Salerno War Cemetery, Italy.

Sold with copied Reconnaissance Corps Record Office letter and two newspaper cuttings announcing the recipient’s death; a photographic image of the recipient, and one of his original grave.
