Pair: Second Lieutenant A. G. Carmichael, 6th (Service) Battalion, Cameron Highlanders, killed in action during the Battle of Arras, 11 April 1917

Andrew Gemmell Carmichael was born in South Wimbledon, London, in 1894. He studied Medicine at the University of Edinburgh, and was part of the university’s O.T.C. whilst there. Carmichael married in Edinburgh, and resided there prior to the Great War. He was commissioned Temporary Second Lieutenant in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, in November 1915. Carmichael was posted to the 6th (Service) Battalion, Cameron Highlanders, in August of the following year.

Second Lieutenant Carmichael was killed in action 11 April 1917. On the latter date the Battalion were serving during the Battle of Arras, and Carmichael is buried in the Orange Trench Cemetery, Monchy-Le-Preux, France. The cemetery was created following the fighting of 9 - 11 April 1917, when the village of Monchy-Le-Preux was carried by the 12th, 15th and 37th Divisions.
