British War and Victory Medals, with M.I.D. oak leaves (Lieut. F. E. Lingeman); France, Third Republic, Croix de Guerre, bronze, reverse dated 1914-1916, with bronze palm on riband, nearly extremely fine (3) £160-£200

Francis Edgar Lingeman was born in France on 16 October 1895, and was educated at Tonbridge School. Following the outbreak of the Great War he joined the Inns of Court Officer Training Corps on 12 October 1914, and was commissioned Second Lieutenant in Lancashire Fusiliers on 8 April 1915. He served with the 18th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers during the Great War on the Western Front from 29 January 1916, and was promoted temporary Lieutenant in June 1916. He was slightly wounded and gassed, near Houthulst Forest, on 18 October 1917. For his services during the Great War he was Mentioned in Despatches (London Gazette 18 December 1917) and awarded the French Croix de Guerre (London Gazette 15 December 1919). Emigrating to Canada, he died in Quebec on 3 April 1961.
