Albert Edwin Elvin was born at Windsor, Berkshire, and enlisted as a Boy with the Royal Warwickshire Regiment in London on 13 July 1884, aged 14, being appointed Drummer on 22 August following. Over the next 12 years he saw various promotions and demotions until 9 May 1896, when he was appointed Sergeant Drummer. He went with the Regiment to Egypt in November 1897 and served in the Sudan at the battles of the Atbara and Omdurman. He returned home in December 1898 and then transferred to the 4th Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in April 1899. He received his L.S. & G.C. medal in 1908 and retired from the Army in June 1911, after 27 years service. He died on 17 July 1947 and is buried in the Churchyard at Kirby Cane, Norfolk.
