Five: Sergeant C. Hart, Bedfordshire Regiment

Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, undated reverse, 1 clasp, The Nile 1884-85 (1569. Pte. C. Hart. 2/D. of Corn: L.I.); Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Cape Colony, Transvaal, Wittebergen (4210 Corl. C. Hart, Bedford Regt.); King’s South Africa 1901-02, 2 clasps, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902 (4210 Serjt: C. Hart. Bedford: Regt.); Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 3rd issue, small letter reverse (4210. Corp: C. Hart. Bedf: R.); Khedive’s Star 1882 [sic], unnamed as issued, housed in a display frame, heavy pitting and edge bruising to first, this fair, otherwise better, the Boer War pair nearly extremely fine (5) £340-£380

Cornelius Hart served with the 2nd Battalion, Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry in Egypt and the Sudan (entitled to a Khedive’s Start dated 1884-6, not 1882), before transferring to the Bedfordshire Regiment. He was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct medal on 1 January 1899, and subsequently served with the 2nd Battalion in South Africa during the Boer War. He was discharged on 30 September 1902, and died in Herne Bay, Kent, on 17 March 1946.
