Johannes Lodiwikus Griebenauw served as a Major-General in the South African Police. He served as an investigating officer in the Security Branch at Windhoek, 1964 - 1974. The following year he was appointed as Commanding Officer of the investigating unit of the security branch at East London. Griebenauw was briefly posted to Boland, before serving as the Commanding Officer of the investigative unit in Cape Town, 1983-1985. He served in a similar capacity for the following three years in East London, before serving as the Regional Commanding Officer of the security branch for Western Cape. Subsequent postings included being seconded to the Qwandabele Government where he acted as the Commissioner of Police. Griebenauw retired in July 1992.
