Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 4 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901 (3775 Pte. F. Brooker. 6/Drgn Gds.) edge nicks, very fine £140-£180

Frederick Charles Brooker was born in London in 1871 and attested for the 6th Dragoon Guards in London on 21 September 1889. He served with the Regiment in India from 24 December 1891 to 20 October 1894, and in Egypt from 21 October 1894 to 3 November 1896, before transferring to the Army Reserve on 17 November 1896. Recalled to the Colours on 20 December 1899 following the outbreak of the Boer War, he served with the Regiment in South Africa from 9 February to 10 July 1900, and again from 29 June 1901. Severely wounded by gun shot to the right thigh and left wrist at Bosjespruit on 1 November 1901, he returned to the U.K. on 20 January 1902, and was discharged as medically unfit on 15 March of that year, after 12 years and 176 days’ service.
