India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Perak (440, Pte. G. Bridle, 1/10th. Foot) good very fine £220-£260

George Bridle was born in Bridport, Dorset, in 1841, and attested for the 10th (North Lincolnshire) Regiment of Foot at Taunton, Somerset, on 18 November 1859. He served with the Regiment in South Africa from 15 November 1864 to 18 January 1868, and then in Japan from 19 January 1868 to 8 August 1871, as part of the European presence following the Battle of Shimousaki in 1865. He subsequently served in the the Straits Settlements from 9 August 1871 to 20 March 1872; in China from 21 March to 18 November 1872; and in the Straits Settlements from 19 November 1872 to 26 April 1877, and on this latter posting took part in the Perak campaign from 2 November 1875 to 20 March 1876. He was promoted Corporal on 12 November 1879, and Sergeant on 21 June 1882, and was discharged at Lincoln on 31 March 1890, his character being described as ‘Fair, addicted to drink.’
