A Great War 1918 ‘Minesweeping operations’ D.S.C. group of three awarded to Lieutenant C. H. Daniel, Royal Naval Reserve

Distinguished Service Cross, G.V.R., hallmarks for London 1918, reverse additionally engraved ‘Lieut. Charles Harold Daniel R.N.R. H.M.S. Shewsbury [sic] 19th August 1918’; British War and Victory Medals (Lieut. C. H. Daniel. R.N.R.) mounted for wear, good very fine (3) £800-£1,200

D.S.C. London Gazette 24 March 1919:
‘For services in Minesweeping Operations between the 1st July and 31st December, 1918.’

Charles Harold Daniel was commissioned Temporary Lieutenant in the Royal Naval Reserve, 23 March 1916. Employed on minesweeping duties, Daniels was appointed to the command of the paddle minesweeper H.M.S. Glen Avon in November 1916, and to the command of H.M.S. Shrewsbury, in April 1918. Daniel was employed with the Mine Clearance Service after the war, and appointed to the command of H.M.S. Tring in September 1919. He was demobilised in early 1920.
