Matthew Holywood served with the Army Service Corps as a Squadron Quartermaster Sergeant during the Great War on the Western Front from 21 November 1915, and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for ‘Devotion’ in France. He subsequently served with the British Army of the Rhine, and was still serving in August 1924.
