Three: Private G. Lindsay, King’s Own Scottish Borderers, killed in action on the Somme, 13 September 1916

George Lindsay was born in Burntisland, Fife. He served during the Great War with the 2nd Battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers in the French theatre of war from 30 August 1914. He was killed in action 3 September 1916. On the latter date the Battalion was serving as part of the 13th Brigade, 5th Division, ‘in preparation for assault on Falfemont Farm (3/9), assembled on slopes of the Leuze Wood spur, some 400 yards from objective. Attack commenced 8.50 am - Official History of the Great War recording the task as ‘impossible’. Battalion swept by rifle and machine gun fire in front and flank. Casualties - almost 300.’

Private Lindsay is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
