Charles Reynolds was born in Aston, Birmingham, in 1877 and attested for the Border Regiment at Birmingham on 30 August 1899. He served with the 1st Battalion in South Africa from 2 September 1900 to 28 September 1902, and was promoted Corporal on 26 December 1902. He transferred to the Army Reserve on 19 June 1905, and was discharged on 29 August 1911, after 12 years’ service.
