Ernest Roper was killed in action at Dickebusch, Belgium, on 9 January 1915. The P.P.C.L.I. first took up positions in the trenches at Dickebusch on 6 January 1915. At the time of his death Roper was aged 57, the son of the late Thomas Henry and Emma Roper, of Puddlehinton, Dorset, and husband of Marie Louisa Roper, of 1175 Haro Street, Vancouver, B.C. He is commemorated by name on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres.
