Frederick Peere Williams Freeman was appointed 2nd Lieutenant on 7 December 1855; Lieutenant, 3 April 1858; Captain, 7 December 1867; Major, 7 December 1875; Lieutenant-Colonel, 7 December 1881; Colonel, 7 December 1885; retired Major-General, 15 June 1886. He served in the Indian Mutiny campaign with 2nd Sikh police Battalion in July and August 1858, and with Behar Field Force under Brigadier Douglas in August 1858, and was present at the final capture of Jugdespore in October 1858 (Medal); served in the latter part of the second campaign in Afghanistan on the Khyber lines of communication from March 1880 (Medal).
