79th (Cameron Highlanders) Regiment Officer’s Dirk c. 1863-86 Being the Property of Reginald Carey Annesley, the 27 cm blade by Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London fully etched with a crown, oak sprays, ‘79’, the crest and motto and initials R.C.A., on the reverse fully etched with the battle honours from Egypt to the Crimea, the hand grip of bog oak with brass pin decoration, ornate knop with applied facetted stone, the knife and fork with bog oak hand grips and coloured stone finials, the black leather scabbard with ornate gilt mounts featuring ‘79’ oak and thistle sprays and a sprig of bluebells, all gilt areas on the dirk and scabbard are sound but require cleaning, little gilt remains on the knife and fork, good overall condition £1600-2000

Note: Reginald Carey Annesley Commissioned Ensign in the 79th by purchase 24.11.1863, Lieutenant 29.1.1867, Captain 15.3.1879, August 1881 he is Senior Captain in the 1st Battalion Cameron Highlanders, Major (backdated to 1st July 1881), noted as serving as Adjutant the Forfarshire Rifle Volunteers, retires 24th November 1886 with the rank of Hon. Lieut. Colonel.
Served in the second phase of the Ashanti War in 1874. Attached to the 42nd Highlanders and was present at the Battle of Amoaful (slightly wounded). Present at the capture of Becquah and at the battle of Ordahau and the capture of Coomassie. Medal with Clasp.
