17th (Duke of Cambridge’s Own) Lancers Officer’s Full Dress Schapska c. 1880-1901, Together With an Associated Carrying Tin, a fine quality example, the black patent leather skull complete with all gold lace braiding, white cloth covered sides and trencher top, the top with crossed gold orris cord, the very fine frontal plate in gilt with silver overlays these include the Motto of the regiment ‘DCO’ regimental title and battle honours to ‘South Africa 1879’, gold pearl rosette with ‘VR’ cypher on a blue velvet ground, correct pattern side ornaments and lined chin chain, white cock’s feather plume but with other ranks plume holder, buff leather sweat band and crimson silk lining. A japanned square carrying tin with brass plaque for ‘H.E.J. Wykeham Fiennes, Esq., 9th Q.R. Lancers’, the crimson silk lining part detached, very slight surface crazing to the black patent leather, carrying tin with some loss to the japanning and a dent in the lid otherwise very good overall condition (2) £2000-3000
