Richard Curtis Taylor served on the Western Front with the 16th (Service) Battalion (2nd Salford), Lancashire Fusiliers and it is likely that he was involved in the battalion’s attack on Thiepval on the First Day of the Battle of the Somme. He was killed in action on 23 November 1916 and is buried in Waggon Road Cemetery, Beaumont-Hamel, France.

Alfred Mead, a native of Braintree, Essex, enlisted into the 2 Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers as a pre-war regular soldier and landed in France on 22 August 1914. He died of wounds on 31 May 1915, just after the 2nd Battle of Ypres had finished. He is buried in Hazebrouck Communal Cemetery, Belgium.

Arthur James Walbeoff was a native of Pontnewynydd, Pontypool, and served with the 2/6th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers. He was killed in action on 21 March 1918 on the first day of the German Spring Offensive. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, France.

Samuel Beresford, a native of Pendleton, Manchester, served on the Western Front with the 11th (Service) Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers. He was killed in action on the 8 October 1916 during the Battle of the Somme, whilst attached to the 9th (Service) Battalion Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. He is buried in Contay British Cemetery, France.

John William Walton served on the Western Front with the 1st Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers.

Joseph Pendleton originally enlisted into the Lancashire Fusiliers before transferring to the Labour Corps.

Bert Cox originally served on the Western Front with the 11th (Service) Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers, landing in France on 29 September 1915. He later transferred to the Remounts branch of the Army Service Corps.

George Groves served on the Western Front with the 16th (Service) Battalion (2nd Salford), Lancashire Fusiliers.

Fred Endley enlisted on 8 December 1915 and originally served on the Western Front with the 19th (Service) Battalion (3rd Salford) (Pioneers) Lancashire Fusiliers. He was later posted to the 1st Battalion before returning to the 19th Battalion. He was discharged from the army on 22 July 1918.

John Marsden enlisted on 12 December 1915 and served with the 1/5th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers. He was discharged on 19 April 1919 ‘no longer physically fit for war service’.
