India General Service 1908-35, 1 clasp, Burma 1930-32 (Lieut. A. B. Slessor. Oxf. & Bucks. L.I.) extremely fine £260-300

Anthony Bristow Slessor died on service in Burma on 19 December 1932. The following obituary was published in the Regimental Journal, 1932:

‘Lieutenant Anthony Bristow Slessor who died at Mandalay while serving with the 52nd in Burma on December 19th 1932, was born on November 18th 1904. He joined the 43rd as a 2nd Lieut. on August 27th 1924 and was promoted Lieutenant on August 27th 1926. From October 12th 1927 to 24th June 1929, he was employed with the R.W.A.F.F. and on returning to regimental duty he was posted to the 52nd.

“Bud” Slessor will be long remembered in the regiment for his excellent black and white sketches which, up to the date of his death, appeared regularly in the Journal. He was an artist of more than ordinary merit and his work will be much missed. A keen sportsman he played nearly all games. He played polo for the 52nd and any successes that the 52nd had in the rugger world were mainly due to his efforts.

He was devoted to the jungle and much of his spare time was spent in shooting expeditions both in Africa and Burma. He was an exceptionally loveable character and his loss will be keenly felt by all serving officers of the regiment.’
